A group of 29 US congressmen and congresswomen, including Senator Bernie Sanders, who was a pre-candidate for the presidency of the United States in 2016, will send a letter to the Brazilian government this Thursday (26) denouncing what they consider a political prison of Lula, based on “unproven accusations” in a “highly questionable and politicized” trial. In the letter, Lula is considered as “the main presidential candidate” for the October elections.
The parliamentarians argue that the fight against corruption should not be used to justify the persecution of their opponents or their right to participate in the elections. A letter also points out that the state security forces are implicated in the murder of Marielle Franco.
