Lula travels today to four African countries

On Wednesday, March 13, under the auspices of the African Initiative of the Lula Institute, a program designed to share experiences in public policy and promote closer ties between Brazil and Africa, both in business and in civil society activities, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will begin a weeklong trip to four countries in Africa (Nigeria, Benin, Ghana and Equatorial Guinea). The former president visited three countries in Africa in November 2012 (South Africa, Mozambique and Ethiopia), and he expects to visit more countries in East Africa before the end of 2013.
During the trip, former president Lula will meet with presidents, former presidents, and African social and business leaders to exchange experiences about public policies and foster the growth of closer relations between Brazil and Africa.

On the last day of his trip, March 19, Lula will participate in an event hosted by The Economist magazine, the Nigeria Summit 2013, in Lagos. The former president will also give a speech to businessmen in the country and will meet with writers. He will meet as well with the coach of the Nigerian national football team, the current African Champion, which will be competing in the FIFA 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil. Prior to his visit to Lagos, the former president will visit Equatorial Guinea (March 14), Ghana (March 15 – 16) and Benin (March 17).

In Accra, the capital of Ghana, the former president will make a speech, participate in a discussion about social programs at the headquarters of the FAO, visit the office of Embrapa in Ghana and meet with John Kufuor, the former president of Ghana who shared the 2011 World Food Prize with Lula, for his work in combating hunger.
